NARRATOR
Once their lungs inflated with good clean air, our pair set out on errands. Erasmus went to the History department to leave a letter for for forwarding to his parents.

Petra had a letter of her own to arrange, but she did not tell Erasmus what it contained. In the hallway of the medical wing she overheard familiar voices.

ABIGAIL
Thank you for agreeing to see me, Provost Cunningham.

CUNNINGHAM
And what brings you to my office today, young Miss Entwhistle?

ABIGAIL

CUNNINGHAM
Well, it has long been my policy that women are not suited to medicine. Perhaps you can try history?

ABIGAIL
No. That is not what I was saying. What I wanted to know is if there were techniques to calm the stomach. Foods I would be better to eat, liquids that can reduce stomach acid, that sort of thing.

CUNNINGHAM
I see. It has been my experience that if you haven't the stomach for it, you haven't. No use wishing to have hair of spun gold, or stomachs of iron. In either case you are simply fooling yourself.
