We worked until the Doctor's recall sounded. Over the next few days, we researched the entire span of Petra's travels - from the farthest
reach into the past to present day, breaking only for food, snatches of
sleep and the transmigration recall chimes. In Paris, Sage and Savant
took days recuperating, keeping their bodies strong, and building a
waste management system to help support their repeated bounces to
my time.

At semi-regular intervals that grew further apart as the Doctor improved the equipment in Paris, their bodies would collapse only to revive a moment or two later and the work would go on.

The summer passed for them, a few days for us. It was a time of
confusion and fogged awareness as we all juggled multiple time
streams and began to confuse today with yesterday, tomorrow with last
week.

I was humbled to watch Petra and Erasmus see their future, beyond
their future, through the lens of ancient history. I registered their shock as they revisited the terrible things the knew about, such and the first and second world wars, and then the terrible things they didn't such as the rise of American fascism, the world-wide Latinex slave trade, climate change and the Destruction and period of centuries in thrall to warring ultra-religious sects.

Every seam, as LUCI called them, was marked by a transmigration event.

And as transmigration caught on and began to be used by corporations,
governments, church leaders peddling miracles, and even everyday people mortgaging their lives to visit with a long-dead loved one, seams became as common as raindrops.
