about

music behind the following scene

NARRATOR
If Erasmus has learned anything in his years of friendship with Doctor
Sage, it is, when she can be moved. This was not one of those times.

PROF SAVANT
We'll be on the dawn packet boat then?

NARRATOR
And so they were. They passed the crossing in near silence, sharing only a few pleasantries at meal times and the like. Erasmus knew that Petra needed time with her thoughts. He imagined them to be full of self-recrimination and regrets, painful self-reflection and re-evaluation.

He imagined in error. Petra wasted no time second guessing herself, blaming the Provost, nor the college. In the Board's place she would have voted exactly the same: for suspension and investigation. How could they not? Her name had been written, bold as you please on weapons of terror and murder. It was not a remorseful Sage that landed in Calais and caught the mail coach to Paris, but a vengeful one.
